Simply stylish crochet patterns for fashionable makes in modern yarns and colours.
Susan Ritchie and Karen Miller are the proprietors of Mrs Moon, an online yarn store, and their mission is to show you how simple it is to create your own modern-casual crochet garments, accessories and homewares. There are easy-to-hook projects in chunky yarns that will grow so fast you’ll be finished in a day, and larger or more intricate items that will take longer, but are well worth every stitch you hook in to them. There are pieces that are perfect for beginners to crochet – such as a chevron throw, a simple beanie, or a snuggly cowl – and other projects that introduce lacy and textured stitches so you can expand your skills at your own pace, and with the help of the techniques section at the back of the book. Choose to make a delicately lacy ombré scarf, a hipster granny-square coatigan, or a giant owl amigurumi that children will love. Whatever your skill level, Susan and Karen have designed projects for Simple Chic Crochet that you will love to make for your home, your friends, your family, and of course, yourself.

This is a beautiful color book with some fabulous projects.

The projects come with full sized pictures of the finished item and the instructions are simple to follow with a step by step, row by row guide.  The way they are photographed is just divine.

Some of them are quick and others will take a bit longer, but everyone is beautifully designed and there is something for everyone.

I loved this book simply because it contains everything for a beginner and can be used as reminder for the more advanced.

At the back is a technique guide with easy to follow demonstrations with pictures, how to hold your hook and wool and how to complete the stitches. There is even a glossary of abbreviations which is very helpful.

My favorite project is the Granny Square Coatigan which I think would be gorgeous in monochrome and fabulous for the Autumn days t keep me warm. I will definitely be making it soon. There are cushions, rugs, hats and toys, so everyone is catered for.

I decided to make the ‘Medallion Choker’.

Although the authors have recommended using their own Mrs Moon yarn, they have an online yarn store which is fabulous and is well worth taking a look at, but just for review purposes I have used what I have in my stash.

I have decided to use a perle cotton and some metallic sewing thread to add that sparkle. (if you choose to do this ensure the thread is used loosely so it doesn’t break)

This was an easy project and just took a couple of hours to complete. The instructions are easy to follow and as you can see the choker is very effective. I can see my friends wanting these in all colors.

The only thing I would advise with this pattern is the tie ends are a bit small and might not be enough to tie comfortably. so I would add extra stitches just because the size of your neck might be bigger than what this size was intended for.

If you look closely you can just pick up the metallic thread… sparkly 😀

Happy crafting.
