A serial killer murdering for kicks.
A detective seeking revenge.
When the body of a snatched schoolgirl is found in an abandoned bio-sciences building, the case is first treated as a kidnapping gone wrong
But Detective Kay Hunter isn’t convinced, especially when a man is found dead with the ransom money still in his possession.
When a second schoolgirl is taken, Kay’s worst fears are realised.
With her career in jeopardy and desperate to conceal a disturbing secret, Kay’s hunt for the killer becomes a race against time before he claims another life.
For the killer, the game has only just begun…
This novel is fabulous start to Detective Kay Hunter’s fictional career.
Like many other of my favourite female leads she is ballsy, tough and caring.
Scared to Death starts brilliantly tense, with Tony and Yvonne finding the dead body of their daughter, who had been kidnapped whilst they were holidaying in Europe.
Kay has a frustrating task in finding this killer and as the body count rises she finds that this case is rather different that first thought.
The murders shock, and the plot is pacy. twisting with action and with Kay’s home life filtering through we really do come to love Amphletts style. With more than one surprise within it pages, Scared to Death will satisfy any lover of serial killer fiction.
